Gaudi's La Sagrada Família

La Sagrada Família (Catalan, 'The Holy Family') is a large Roman Catholic basilica under construction in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Its formal title is Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família. Antoni Gaudí worked on the project for over 40 years, devoting the last 15 years of his life entirely to this endeavour. On the subject of the extremely long construction period, Gaudí is said to have joked, "My client is not in a hurry." After Gaudí's death in 1926, work continued under the direction of Domènech Sugranyes until interrupted by the Spanish Civil War in 1935.

The Cove Atlantis - Paradise Island, Bahamas

The Cove Atlantis, The Bahamas

With The Cove Atlantis opening February 2007 on the grounds, fans of Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas have good reason to re-consider this water wonderland.

Adult-oriented and sophisticated Cove Atlantis focuses on grown-up pleasures — dining, shopping, and spa pampering. While children are permitted, better facilities for youngers at other Atlantis towers are more appropriate for those traveling with youngsters.

Add in a great beach, a water "power tower," the addition of status-chef restaurants, and the biggest casino in the Caribbean, and The Cove Atlantis earns a top spot as a best new hotel for romance.

Time to go back !

"...Just as the mega-resort Atlantis on Paradise Island started to look a little tired, its owners have poured $1 billion dollars into expanding and improving the property to once again make it the premiere destination in the Caribbean.
For honeymoon couples and other romantics, the big news is the opening of The Cove Atlantis, a 22-story, 600-unit, all-suite tower (bottom left in photo). While The Cove Atlantis doesn't ban children, it does restrict access to its private pool and beach club to guests 18 years and older, making other Atlantis towers more suitable for families with kids. The Cove Atlantis is now accepting reservations for its February 2007 opening and beyond.

Atlantis Resort upgrades don't stop there, though:

* The recent addition of celebrity-chef eateries Nobu and Mesa Grill has raised the bar for dining in the Bahamas
* A free-standing, seven-story Power Tower provides unbelievable water thrills. Users can meander along a mile-long river ride in tubes or swoosh down water slides for a nonpareil indoors-and-out thrill ride
* Mandara Spa — 30,000 square feet of Balinese-inspired treatments — is accessed via a glass bridge spanning a bamboo water garden. It features 34 private rooms and Oriental tea pavilions
* Rescued "Katrina dolphins" now have a new dolphin lagoon built just for them at Atlantis Resort, and guests can interact with these sentient, intelligent creatures in a non-exploitative way..."

The Hagia Sophia - Sightseeing in Istanbul Turkey – Historical City Straddling Two Continents

Ayasofya (Hagia Sophia): changed the course of Western architecture; and is widely hailed as the greatest church in Christendom for 1000 years. The Church of the Divine Wisdom (Hagia Sophia in Greek) is one of the most impressive and important buildings ever constructed. Its wide, flat dome was a daring engineering feat in the 6th century, and architects still marvel at the building's many innovations. Called Hagia Sophia in Greek and Ayasofya in Turkish, it was built on the site of Byzantium's acropolis by Emperor Justinian in 537 AD. Ayasofya was the greatest church in Christendom until St Peter's Basilica was built in Rome a thousand years later.
