  1. hello, I was just at ba this past june 2008.The army left and there hasn't been anything done sense. I left in 1972 and returned in 1998. They wouldn't let me on base. I tried in 2003, once again they wouldn't let me on (they u s army). June 2008 I was able to drive on base it was abandoned. Tall grass and some broken glass and buildings needing some paint and care. I was able to walk the halls of company A and B. went to the club but it is being used by some Germans. All in all I was glad to get to see the MOST BEAUTIFUL army base in it's time. 38 years is a short time.time changes. Yes one thing the air tower is gong they cut it down. I'm glad I went.....

  2. I had a great time while stationed at BA.... anyone remember the "down hill drinkers from BA city" I left the end of 1971 or early 1972 and went to Augsburg. My wife and I will be there the second week of Sept 2008.

  5. I was stationed there from 97 til 2000 (retirement), due to the closure of Augsburg (another great place to live). I truely enjoyed my time there, had a great landlord, had my dog and the area was simply fantastic......true Bayern!
After reading of its closure of the base in 2004, my heart sank.....it sank even more after reading of the anonymous statement of the conditions of the base, that its open now, and no one is taking care of this little jewel. Since I am now again in Germany, up in Schweinfurt, I will have to pack myself and my dog up and take a trip down and see the place and visit my old land-lord on the farm not 3 miles from the place.
    sincerly,

  6. BA rocked!!! Kino Korner matinees, little league, Mr. Wagoner, Miss Swenson, Mr. Miller, Frau Schatz... PX, snackbar, Stars and Stripes, AYA, commissary bagging for tips, pool upstairs in the recreation hall...
How about the bus riders to MAHS? And Chiemsee, Bertschesgaden or Wasserburg?
"Brown Sugar" and "Long Cool Woman" said it all.
I loved every minute of it. --LD

  7. Who are you, anonymous? Do you remember Ms.Petrella(Mary Lou),Ms.Rucker, The Club, John Shaver, manager, Grahm Grande, Base Commander? I was there from 1972-1975,and it really was one of the best times of my life! Depending on your age then(you mentioned school teachers), you may not have known about the BARF BAGGERS, Bad Aibling River Floaters, a very fun-loving group of fellows, who were joined by myself and others, at times, for river rafting trips, ski trips, and "parties". So glad I found this site...brings back MANY FOND MEMORIES. The base truly was a "little jewel", and the people like family. I too made some life-long friends there. More later.

  9. For anyone that has been to Bad Aibling Station / Mietraching lately, I would really like to know if the Maxlrain brewery is still in operation. One of my fondest memories while stationed there from '66 to '68 is to sit in the Maxlrain brewery's biergarten and look towards the Wendelstein and the rest of the bavarian alps.

  14. It's amazing some of the things you stumble across with a simple Google search. I was stationed there from 2001 - 2003 and am back living in the area. One of the locals asked me if I could find out when the bowling alley on station opened. He thinks it might be the oldest alley in Germany.

How about it old-timers, when did it open?

For those of you who might remember the long-time manager there was Pat D'Silva. Well, his son Johnny bought the lanes when the station closed and it continues to operate to this day. See his website: http://www.johnnysbowling.de/

  16. So--more stumbling!

Some of you know me and of the BALTA website, which has some information about the whereabouts of about 170 people who were at BA, from ab out 1964 through 1972, some before and some later.

There is also a site with about 39,000 names of ASA people at www.asalives.com . If anyone would like my list of BA people and to take a look at the Balta website ( www.balta.wordpress.com) and information on our yearly reunion, please contact me at kerryvandegrift@gmail.com

  17. I (Mike Flynn) lived in BA from 1974 - 1979. My dad (Dave Flynn) was an MP. What a great place to be a kid! Got to go back in 1995 for a quick visit when I was stationed in Germany with 1AD. Was beautiful and made me question why I joined the infantry instead of MI.

enjoyed two tours at BA 1956/1958

1994/1997 , one tour as a young man and the next as an old man , both were great if my memory serves me right.

THOSE DAYS ARE GONE, DID THEY REALY HAPPEN?

  21. Hi Dale Kipp, I was in BA from 1972-1975, a GREAT time in my life. I was a civilian working at the Club, John Shaver, manager. One of the best times of my life. Yes, those days are "gone", but they "live on forever in our hearts", and YES, they really did happen, though I understand your question, because all the REALLY GREAT times of our lives seem like a DREAM!! At least, in my opinion! Mary Ann Schuman(Mary Ann Skony,in those days)

  22. BA 87-90 I remember driving from our housing in town in my Ford Escort on a Sunday morning. It was snowing like all get out, but I had to get the Sunday Stars and Stripes. After arriving at the club where they sold it on Sundays, I found the Stripes had not been delivered because of the storm. I walked into the restaurant, ordered a Paulner, and enjoyed a wonderful Sunday. I had a daughter born there and the three years I spent went so fast.

Hi everyone. How are you doing Monika. I hope everyone is ok. I was stationed in BA 1964 to 1967. This is where I met my only love, but I went home and Went on with my life, but around 1996 I came back in contact with my love. We got married, but it did not work out I will always be sorry Teresa. Everyone should remember Joseph and Stephony Bradaric, they ran the Army base. They will always have a place in my heart. The rest of the family are and continue to be very large part of my heart. I guess I left my heart in BA. All the best to everyone. JOHN

  29. Hello from one loadmaster, I was in BA from 66-68. this station was one of the best places to be stationed, so close to the alps and one could travel anywhere by catching a train. enjoyed spending my free time traveling and seeing the world around us. I want to go back.....

  30. Is there anybody OUT THERE?

  31. Wayne Langley! That name is so familiar. I was at Bad Aibling as a 98G (German) from 1967-1970. I remember the Trick 1 Loadmasters. I started with Johnny Massey on Trick 1, and a year or so later got assigned to straight swings because they needed an experienced op on that shift once all the day beggers went home. Worked with two different company tech reps but only remember Dave Pfost. I remember all the ditty-bops went through a phase where they tried to set everybody on fire with the tear strips from the multi-ply.

  32. My wife and I were stationed at BA from 1987 to 1990. It was one of the best USAF assignments I had during my 20 year career. I was the first USAF Security Police NCO assigned to the 6915th ESS and really enjoyed the people there and Bavaria in general. My wife and I had just gotten married and the tour there was like a three year honeymoon, travelled every weekend, made it over to Ireland for a vacation and had lot's of TDY's. Really miss "Joe's Place" gasthaus over by our apartment in Bruckmuhl! Made lot's of friends there, especially hanging out with the Balzanna's and Cannon's. -Bob Brousseau
